David Shawver


2019 - David Shawver is working on the campaign to get two new taxes passed in our city.

2019 - David Shawver is negociating $15,000,000 secret real estate deal while pretending our city needs more taxes.

2019 - David Shawver voted to put a tax on renting out rooms when using a third party service and increased the tax on hotel stays. This is going to be a "black mark" on residential homes at a time when our housing values have come nowhere closed to pre-recession values.

2019 - David Shawver voted to put the pot tax on our ballot. High taxes will continue to keep the black market thriving in our residential neighborhoods, apartments, and mobile home parks.

2019 - David Shawver voted for the $5,000,000 expendature from our general fund to the Calfornia Retirement System. We voted for that general fund money to be used for 9-1-1 safety services, Sheriff, Fire, etc. and now it has been dirvirted again.

2017 - First of all, in Stanton we have to remember we have lots of fees on things like a cable TV franchise fee, SoCal Edison franchise fee, lighting and landscaping fee, protective service fee... And who knows where all these fees came from since it's difficult to keep track of them all and too many times Stanton Residents were not allowed to vote on these fees.

2016 - Mayor David Shawver worked to stop the rescinding of the Stanton Sales Tax with the use of the "Talk On The Block" community meeting.

2016 - Mayor David Shawver raised the fees on the local Stanton sewer tax multiple times over the past few years without a vote of the people. Notice this is in addition to the county sewer fee he has been increasing as well.

2015 - Mayor David Shawver increased the Stanton trash fee without the vote of the people. Again Stanton is near the top of rates charged out of all cities in Orange County and about 25% higher than Tustin which uses the same trash hauler. How can this be justified!

2014 - Mayor David Shawver put the Stanton Sales Tax Increase on the November 2014 Stanton ballot which passed making it the highest sales tax in Orange County.

2013 - Mayor David Shawver voted for 5 years of increases on the county sewer fee while serving as Stanton's representative on the County Sanitation District Board. In 2008 the fee was $199 and now in 2017 it will be $339. Again, this was done without a vote of the people.

2012 - Mayor David Shawver promoted the Measure G bond which increased property tax bills. This was the Savanna school bond but just 17 months earlier Savanna sold Mary Perez School to Stanton for $12.5 million so was an increase in the property tax bill really necessary?

2012 - Major fundraising and campaigning in favor of the 50% utility tax increase leads back to Jennifer Shawver. It looks like tax raising runs in the family.

2012 - Mayor David Shawver voted to place a 7.5% tax on Stanton's cable television on the Stanton ballot. This is in addition to the franchise fee that is already on the bill which was put on there without a vote of the people.

2012 - Mayor David Shawver voted to place a 50% increase on the Utility Tax on the Stanton ballot. This would have pushed the utility tax from 5% to 7.5%. This utility tax is also on cellphones.

2010 - Mayor David Shawver voted for an increase in Stanton’s trash franchise fee without the vote of the people.

2008 - Mayor David Shawver voted for 5 years of increases on the county sewer fee while serving as Stanton's representative on the County Sanitation District Board. This was done without a vote of the people.

2001 - Mayor David Shawver supported the Stanton utility tax.

1997 - Mayor David Shawver supported the Stanton parcel tax.

1994 - 2001 - Council Member Shawver did not let Stanton voters vote on the utility tax from the time he got into office in 1994 until 2001.

1994 - Mayor David Shawver promoted this message, "I have always fought against the utility user's tax. And it appears no one on the council has even taken a look at other resources, because it's easy to keep spending our tax dollars.". Council Member Shawver has been on the Stanton Council from 1994 to present and so has this utility tax. Why hasn't Dave Shawver kept his promise?

Warren said, "I pledge to keep Stanton’s quality of life my priority by ensuring the best fire and police services, citywide recreation, and maintaining Stanton’s financial security with no new taxes." But, Carol Warren later tried to increase our utility tax by 50%, increased our sewer fee multiple years in a row, reduced funding to our police and fire services and closed 2 of our parks.

2016 - Carol Warren worked to stop the rescinding of the Stanton Sales Tax.

2014 - Carol Warren put the Stanton Sales Tax Increase on Stanton's November 2014 Stanton ballot which passed making it the highest sales tax in the county. This increased our sales tax by 13.5%.

2012 - Warren voted to place a 7.5% tax on our cable television on our Stanton ballot. Kevin Carr defeated this tax measure.

2012 - Warren voted to place a 50% increase of our Utility Tax on our Stanton ballot. This would have pushed the tax from 5% to 7.5%. Luckily Kevin Carr defeated this tax measure.


2012 - Warren reduced funding to our police and fire services and closed 2 of our parks.

Brian Donahue

2010 - Donahue voted for an increase in Stanton's trash franchise fee without the vote of the people.

2001 - Donahue supported the Stanton utility tax.

1997 - Donahue supported the Stanton parcel tax. Stanton Residents defeated it!

1994 - Donanue promoted this message during his re-election, "Yes, the 6 percent utilities tax should be rescinded. This is a major issue with me, and I believe that next year this tax should be reduced by a minimum 2 percent and within four years be completely eliminated. ". Council Member Donahue has been on the Stanton Council from 1988 to present and the utility tax since ~1993. Why hasn't Brian Donahue kept his promise?

1994 - Council Member Donahue did not let Stanton voters vote on the utility tax from the time it was implemented until 2001. A tax withtout a vote of the people!

Tax and fee increases have gotten out of control for some time and in too many cases they are increased without a vote of the people. Brian Donahue has quite a record of raising taxes and fees especially in Stanton.



Al Ethans


2019 - Campaign documents lead back to Al's home address working on the campaign to get two new taxes passed in our city.

2014 - Al Ethans put a city sales tax on our ballot which made our sales taxes the highest in Orange County.

2012 - Al Ethans increased our city sewer fee again (2nd year in a row) without a vote of the people while he was writing on his 2012 campaign website "no new taxes".

2012 Al Ethans Voted to place a 50% utility tax increase on our ballot even though he said he would not increase taxes during his campaigning for office. Major fundraising and campaigning in favor of the 50% utility tax increase leads back to Al Ethans' home address! Luckily us Stanton Residents defeated it!

2010 - Al Ethans voted for an increase in Stanton's trash fee without the vote of the people.

2001 - Al Ethans Supported the Stanton utility tax on tap water, cell phones, electricity, natural gas even though he said he would not increase taxes during his campaigning for office.

1997 - Al Ethans supported the Stanton parcel tax. Us Stanton Residents defeated it!

1996 - 2001 - Council Member Ethans did not let Stanton voters vote on the utility tax from the time he got into office in 1996 until 2001. What happened to his promise?
